Jim Furyk needed a retreat after last season

There are a very few players who can cope with the disappointment of a poor season like Jim Furyk had last year and get back with the same energy to the course the next season. If the reason for the poor performance is mental, the players can easily consult a sports psychologist these days, they could even gulp down a few shots of whiskey or find any other method that would work for them to get their game back on track.

But Furyk needed some time to himself, he needed to retreat. Speaking about the disappointing season that he had last year, Furyk stated that after the season ended last year, he felt he needed some time off for himself and needed to run away from everything remotely associated with golf. Jim Furyk mentioned that sometimes it did not make sense but some of the other times, it did. He added that he was extremely happy with some of the things he had done in 2012, but he also knew it was going to be a frustrating experience to look back at after he failed to get a lot of finishes during the season.

He is already through the first four events of the new season and his best result till date is a T-13 at the Northern Trust Open, although he is confident he will be able to improve on his performances this week.

Jim Furyk, while discussing his game at the moment, stated that he is sitting on the fence, adding that he is seeing a lot of good things but he also needs to turn some of the bad things around in order to be sure. The Tampa Bay Championship is one of his favorite events, having won it in 2010 and finishing second to Luke Donald last year.
