Paul Lawrie blasts G-Mac

He may have captured his third worldwide title already of this season back last weekend but the Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell’s absence from the event next week has generated a lot of talk overseas.

Just this last week, the Northern Irishman had told the reporters that he would be skipping the European Tour event next week for the second successive time this year, because according to the world number five, the tournament has lost much of its identity as well as its prestige after being shifted to the new venue of Castle Stuart which he has gone on to describe as one dimensional.

And these comments from the Northern Irishman have not gone down well with Paul Lawrie, with the Scotsman almost taking the frank comments from Graeme McDowell personally. Speaking to a local media outlet, the Scotsman stated that his answer to what G-Mac has said is that the Scottish Open has got a title sponsor, it also boasts of a lot more money than his own home open and also, it is played on a links course. He went on to state that everyone is entitled to their opinions but according to him, the comments made by McDowell were very poor and he should know a lot better than that.

The final event before The Open Championship, the Scottish Open will become first regular event on the European Tour that will be telecast live on major broadcast television networks in the United States of America. Moreover, NBC has also announced it will telecast two and a half hours of live coverage during the course’s third and fourth round from the picturesque Castle Stuart, widely regarded as the most beautiful course in Scotland.

The likes of Ernie Els and Phil Mickelson will be a part of the line-up for the event.
